I LOVE LOVE LOVE taking photos of first time expectant parents. I don’t know how to put it into words, but I think it’s because when couples are expecting their first child, they feel so many things. Excitement, nervousness, fear, love, joy…and the list goes on and on. I think a woman’s most beautiful when she’s pregnant and excited. She smiles with such conviction because she’s truly happy to be soon holding a little creation she’s made with her loving husband.

Good Tuesday morning everyone! Today we bring you one of the cutest little girls we’ve ever seen! She’s just 10 months old and her parents were just awesome to work with. We had such a wonderful time with Kenny+Hai and we loved seeing a father change his little girl into a tight dress. It was hilarious, to say the least, but his little daughter looked awesome don’t you think? Enjoy!
I love photographing families because it’s a great opportunity for me to play with kids. Every child is different and each and one of their personalities cracks me up. Theresa+Serimon are great parents, not because they’re personal friends of mine, but because I can see it through their kids. You can tell Chloe wants to be like her beautiful mom in every way. Anywhere from posing photos like her mom, to having matching boots and a mini scarf. She’s on her way to being a beautiful classy little lady…just like her mother. Christian thinks so highly of his daddy. He told me his dad is stronger than Marshawn Lynch and can lift a whole house. Now that’s a hero!
On a rare sunny Seattle fall afternoon, we went out to the park and took these lovely photos of the Strong family. Enjoy!
Fireseed Catering is the hidden treasure we discovered thanks to Sam+Nicky. It was such a beautiful September day and the location was just beautiful. Everything about the venue fit Sam+Nicky and we are so glad they gave us the opportunity to document their special day. Sam wanted to make this day as personal as possible. She’s the ultimate DIY bride…risking being eaten half alive by mosquitos so she can go into the woods with her father to chop down branches for her center pieces. It’s a story Sam told me over a cup of coffee weeks before the big day for which I almost snorted liquid through my nose.
When it comes to a great couple, Sam+Nicky truly defines it. I can not imagine how hard it would be to maintain a long distance relationship for the ENTIRE duration of that relationship. But these two love birds did it. For as long as these two’s been together, they’ve never really lived in the same city. In fact, immediately after their wedding, Nicky had to fly out the next day back to serving our country in the National Guard. As we captured their wedding day, our hearts really went out to them. Because Nicky is such a great guy and Sam is the most beautiful and gentle person inside and out. They were just the perfect match for one another. We’re happy to share that Nicky will be moving back this winter to finally begin his life together with Sam. But in the meantime, we hope these photos help them relive their day and bring them a little bit closer from the miles that separate them for now.

Chris and I have been getting into the habit of shopping most of our weekly meat and produce at the Ballard Farmer’s Market. It’s just so great to grab some coffee then stroll around with nice people from stand to stand picking through beautiful locally grown vegetables and fruit. But what better way to spend a Sunday morning before the market than photographing a beautiful family? Well, that just is the icing on the cake. Check out the Bass Family!
Weddings like this don’t come around often. When the bride is dressed in her wedding gown…and also dressing the tables with table cloth. When rounds and rounds of Costco sized bottles of liquor are brought into the venue. And when one of the groomsmen falls into Lake Union dancing to All 4 One’s “I Swear”. Yes, I knew I was looking forward to Quynh+Paul’s wedding for a reason!
Quynh+Paul didn’t want a fancy wedding. Their wish for their wedding day was to have good food with good family and friends. And these are the weddings that I love to shoot. Most of Quynh+Paul’s friends, to this day, are from middle and high school. You have to admit, there’s something to be said about people who maintain close with high school friends. They’re the type of people that seems to always be there when you need them. It was quite an honor to be there with Quynh+Paul on their special day. Since I’ve known Paul for such a long time, it was heart warming to see him so happy. For as long as I’ve known Paul, he’s the type of guy that knows how to love. And he’s found, what I think, is his equal.

I love repeat customers! Especially if they are babies. Because I love babies and it’s so amazing to watch them grow right in front of my camera. Pictures of kids are priceless because like I’ve said before, they grow up so darn fast. When I first met Max, he was a mere 6 weeks old. And when his mom and dad contacted me about doing a 6 months shoot, I was so excited. My memory of Max was that he was such a sweet baby. And him at 6 months, was just as sweet. His parents said he was way too serious for the shoot (no smiles!!!), but I think he was such a good little client. He even did his own hair! I even caught a smile or two!
One of the best perks about being a wedding photographer is having the opportunity to meet so many different kinds of people from many backgrounds. It’s fun to learn about each individual couple, how they met, how they became engaged, as well as where they came from. So when we met Linh+Celso, we were so excited to find out that they wanted to incorporate as many of their cultural traditions as possible in their wedding.
Me — being from Mainland China and growing up in the States since I was 8 — I did not really know what all goes into a traditional Chinese wedding. Of course different parts of China have their own different traditions, but the tea ceremony is very widely practiced, and it is a symbol of paying respect to the couples’ parents, grandparents and other family members that have been a part of their lives up to this point. It was so nice to be a part of that, and be able to capture that in photos. Mix this with some fun groom games here and a lion dance there, and this absolutely becomes one of the most anticipated weddings we wanted to blog to date. Judge for yourself! Enjoy Linh+Celso’s wedding sneak peek below!

Jamie and Wai were two of the first friends I made in high school. I remember us as kids…just 15 years of age…hanging out in the lunch cafeteria. We didn’t have impossible dreams but we did dream. We knew we wanted to go to college and possibly work in the corporate world. And that we did. The three of us continued to college together. Jamie graduated earlier from the Running Start program while Wai and I graduated together a couple of years later. Wai and I also entered the corporate world together at the very same company.
Fast forward 10 years to current day and I can hardly believe they are both mothers. Sometimes when I’m around them and their two beautiful daughters, I think about our high school days. Back then, who knew what those naive, heavy makeup wearing, baggy clothes donning girls thought about children and kids. Because it feels like it really wasn’t that long ago that we were calling each other using 3-way to gab about our boy crushes. And every now and then, I have to remind myself that we’ve all grown up. But as always, I am so happy for my two friends because they are truly amazing people. Our friendship has lasted more than 15 years and I know it’ll continue until we are all old and gray. And I hope our kids will all be good friends like us when they grow up. Just check out these little cuties…they’ll make any one proud parents!
