Fall is all about family portraits! It’s my favorite time to take photos because of the beautiful changing leaves. The Masuda Family took advantage of the very last good weekends in Seattle to get a set of photos taken. The newest member of the family, Leo looks like he had a great time! A beautiful setting for a beautiful family!!!

Almost exactly two years after Amy+Erik got hitched, we got together for Emilio, their first son’s one year photo shoot. I love my job as a photographer because not only is repeat business great, but along the way, we make awesome friends. Hanging out with Amy, Erik, and Emilio was the highlight of that weekend. It made me realize that I really need to hang out with them more!
Emilio has eyes that’ll someday break many hearts! He’s started to break mine when we had to say goodbye to him. Just take a peek of their photos and enjoy!
I love photographing families because it’s a great opportunity for me to play with kids. Every child is different and each and one of their personalities cracks me up. Theresa+Serimon are great parents, not because they’re personal friends of mine, but because I can see it through their kids. You can tell Chloe wants to be like her beautiful mom in every way. Anywhere from posing photos like her mom, to having matching boots and a mini scarf. She’s on her way to being a beautiful classy little lady…just like her mother. Christian thinks so highly of his daddy. He told me his dad is stronger than Marshawn Lynch and can lift a whole house. Now that’s a hero!
On a rare sunny Seattle fall afternoon, we went out to the park and took these lovely photos of the Strong family. Enjoy!
Jean and I have been friends since high school. And I’ve said this before, but I don’t remember ever meeting her. And she doesn’t remember meeting me either. In our memories, we were just in each others’ lives since around 1995 or so. In high school, I was not one of the popular ones. I had a little bit more than a handful of good girl friends I talked on the phone with and wrote notes to. Those friendships lasted through college and to this day, we’re just as close as we’ve ever been.
Jean and I literally chat every single day. If a day goes by without chatting with her, it feels like something’s misaligned. I was in her wedding when she married her high school sweetheart, Jun, and she was my maid of honor when Chris and I got hitched. A friendship like this doesn’t come by very often and I’m truly blessed for woman like Jean in my life.
Throughout the years of chatting daily with Jean, I’ve noticed our conversations take their slow turns, depending on where we are in our lives. Currently, we chat a lot about babies and motherhood. I’m blessed to be able to share with her in this, probably one of the happiest times of her life, and I truly can not wait to meet her and Jun’s little baby boy. It was a long journey to get here, but a really good one. I can’t be more happy for these two parents-to-be’s. Enjoy their recent baby bump stroll through the park below and I’ll be excited to post photos of the little boy when he arrives.
Everyone, please meet Sherrie, Chad, and their two lovely kids. We spent a sunny, but cold morning at our favorite park to shoot, Discovery Park in Seattle and we had so much fun with this family. Sherrie said that this was the first time they’ve ever gotten professional photos taken…EVER! Although Sherrie and Chad were a little shy infront of the camera at first (the kids, as usual, are always naturals), they quickly warmed up after some minor coaching. And as these photos show for themselves, the family had an awesome time around the park. They will also be welcoming a new member to their family, a Golden Retriever pup! Hopefully we’ll be able to meet that new addition in the future. For now though, enjoy their photo sneak peek!
I remember meeting Sara for the first time years ago, during an after-work happy hour. At the time, Sara, Chris, and I all worked at a public accounting firm in Seattle. Sara and I arrived earlier than the others. I had not met her in the office but almost immediately I noticed how easy it was to talk to her. And we sure chatted up that night. She told me about her past in the armed forces defending our country as well as her husband, Jason. So when she mentioned she wanted to take photos with Jason and her pup, Mogul, I could not wait to meet the rest of her family.
Sara+Jason mentioned they’ve never had professional photos taken, not even on their wedding day. Not to mention they’ve both most recently been living overseas in Belgium for the past two years. However, they’re in the process of moving Sara back to Seattle first, with Jason returning there for an additional year to finish school. Knowing this, Chris+I wanted to make sure that we gave them some special photos for them to cherish while they are thousands of miles apart.
“What’s the worst that could happen?”
That’s what we asked ourselves when we first decided to “officially” take the plunge together into photography. I think I read once that a little over 50% of new ventures fail within the first year, and something crazy like 95% within 5. I never felt inclined enough to dig up solid statistics to see if it’s true, but looking back, I don’t think we ever thought we could “fail.”
What’s the worst that could happen? — we’d end up with thousands of photos, bear witness to (and become a part of) some of life’s to some of life’s most intimate and treasured moments, amass some fun toys and hopefully a handful of new friends. All while doing what we love, with our most loved.
Hard to find a downside when you look at it like that.
One year ago tomorrow, we had the honor of capturing SLM+Ryan’s big day. And other than remembering it as a beautiful occasion shared amongst some of the most fabulous and loving people we’ve met, we’ll also remember it as when we were proven right.
SLM+Ryan are cut from that certain kind of amazing that makes you glad you have them in your life. And we blessed to now be able to count them amongst our friends. One year later, we’re even able to add +1 to that list with their heartmelting baby boy, Reese. So it only felt fitting that we kick-off our 2012 shoots with sharing more from the family that reminds us, every time we see them, why we love doing what we do so much.
Happy Anniversary SLM+Ryan, and cheers to your first full year of being awesome, baby Reese!
